The name of the ensemble is “idée fixe” (fixation) since 2006, underlining with in a sense of humor the perseverance of the ensemble’s members about music and their constant need for creation. The ensemble is comprised by a core of twelve musicians, which is widened or altered according to the needs of the artistic programmes performed.

The action and presentation of the ensemble is multi-faceted. Beside its main participation in the “Synthermeia” festival and contest the ensemble presents important works of the international repertoire and tributes to Greek composers. At the same time the ensemble frames the composition class (class of T. Antoniou) of the Municipal Conservatory of Thermi. It is important for the instrumental ensemble Idee Fixe that it currently is the only ensemble in Greece which acts in the domain of conservatory education supporting composition students during their studies.

The main aim of the ensemble, besides of the prominence of the works of Greek composers, is to approach the audience through contemporary creation. The majority of the ensemble’s musicians works at the Municipal Conservatory of Thermi.
